Diabetes Research Center member Sam Stephens was recently awarded a $1.2 million grant by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). The goal of CDMRP is to “fill research gaps by funding high impact, high risk and high gain projects that other agencies may not venture to fund”.
The funding will be awarded in $400,000 increments over a three year period. Dr. Stephens’ research project Exhausted Protein Sorting Capacity Impairs Beta-Cell Function in Type 2 Diabetes focuses on examining how defects in insulin synthesis and packaging within the pancreatic islet beta-cell contributes to beta-cell dysfunction in type 2 diabetes.
Pleas join us in congratulating Sam Stephens!
